As you already know from some of my previous articles, emotional overload and porous boundaries can make you feel like you are talking on the weight of the world. You can gain weight even without eating more or exercising less. The good news is if you are a person who feels too much, your success with your weight loss resolution can be enhanced with a little salt. That doesn’t mean you should generously use the salt shaker on your food, you should use pure salt to clear your energy fields.
I have personally found that taking a Himalayan salt bath in the early evening is a powerful way to incorporate the health benefits of pure salt into my life. The reason this is such an important part of my daily routine is because positive changes occur in any energy field when you heat natural salt. Natural salts of high quality in a hot bath will create negative ions and contribute to a balance pH in your body and provide relief of oxidative stress. Himalayan salt, specifically, has many minerals that your body needs and will be absorbed from the bath. You can add your favorite essential oils for aromatherapy and it also helps to focus on positive affirmations while you are enjoying this time for yourself.
I strongly suggest you don’t put on the same clothes you just took off because they hold all of the energy of the people with whom you have interacted that day. Instead, pick new comfortable clothes that will complement your new relaxed approach to the rest of the day.
I know this idea of a daily bath before dinner may feel like too much of a self-indulgent luxury but it is worth the 20-minute ritual to purge the emotional overwhelm people who feel too much absorb from their surroundings. Even if you find yourself only having or needing 10 minutes out of your day for this practice, do it for one week and see what a difference it makes in your outlook on life, your sleep patterns and your weight. Keep up the routine for a month and if you ever skip a bath, pay close attention to how you feel before you go to bed. I think you will see how beneficial the baths are for your ability to manage your porous boundaries.
The people who have had the best results in my Weight Loss for People Who Feel Too Much program took a salt bath every day. Don’t be ashamed of this time for yourself. In the end, everyone around you will benefit from your experience.

P.S. Since I’ve first posted this, people have asked where they can purchase the salts. follow this link to my resources page on weightloss.colettebaronreid.com There you will se some options.
Thank you so much, Colette Baron-Reid, for this reminder! Taking a salt bath is such a simple practice, yet so very effective way to cleanse our aura.
Most of us, who are healing practitioners, are empathetic , therefore we may take on energies from others and consequently feel burdened. So all that needs to be cleared.
Many people feel tired after being in a crowd, not realizing that there is a constant energy exchange with those around them very similar to the sharing of the air we breathe.
Using the wonderful cleansing qualities of salt is just great to feel clear and energized again. It is a great part of the spiritual hygiene practice!
Would Epson Salt work just the same?
Thank you for the information on salt baths.
May I ask how much of the product/Himalayan salt should be used per bath?
Some of the info I have read on the salt websites is 2.2 lbs. of salt per bath… is it ok to use less? Finally, fine, medium, course grain ~ what do you suggest?
Thank you for your input!
Do you know of a good resource for Himalayan salt?
You don’t mention. How much salt. Sounds good to me .love your new book
I remember a consultation with you Colette (years ago) where you had advised me to change clothes during the day. Fortunately at that time I owned a boutique packed with lovely clothes so this ritual was playful & powerful for me (my employees thought it was hilariously funny but they were not as empathic as I am).
I still change about 3 to 4 times a day, I don’T think my fiance notices anymore LOL
Add to that the salt baths, the liquid smudge spray, a cleansing prayayama and a mega selenite cristal sitting on my desk and I’m set!
These tools you teach in your book work: we just have to make them part of our everyday life to see their positive impact. No excuse.
I swear by this… I did it before bed 1-2 nights a week… I will try daily before dinner! I notice the inflammation and swelling go away … But I was mixing with Epsom salt lemongrass oil and lavender oil as well
I 100% agree…I feel so much better after a salt bath:)
I use about 2 cups of fine grain Himalayan Salt and I mix in a salt mixture from Maria Michele ( see my fave products on the weightloss.colettebaronreid.com page) which is made with Real Salt mined in Utah. 2 pounds is a lot! but I have used that much once by accident and I felt amazing afterwards.
thanx for writing Doris. And we have to remember too! when I forget to do my salt bath I can easily swell some!
it’s so true if we don’t use the tools we see no results! By the way Selenite is a salt crystal;)
I use 2 cups, but no less than that. It’s your preference- you will notice how you feel with more or less oxoxo
there are tons all over the internet and all of them are good that are mined pure. They have to tell you. SaltWorks is a good resource
nope .. but you can put some in but not every day
as a matter of fact I am about to jump into one now. !
lemongrass and lavendar is good. I also like to add a bit of sweet orange and Eucalyptus!
Any suggestions for someone who only has a shower and no tub, Colette? Thanks! 🙂
Hi Colette…just wanted to let you know I LOVE THE SALT!!!…also, I am down 14″ and 13 pounds since October….a total weight loss of 44 pounds since July thanks to your program and my fabulous coach Teresa Reigosa! This is a big deal for me because I swore I would never diet again in my life!…guess what, I am not on a diet. I do eat healthy and lots of foods that make me feel good. I don’t want sugar anymore..makes me lazy and boring! LOL
love you Colette…forever
You can rub the salt on your body before showering….you can also make a spritz with the salt. add the salt to a spray bottle and keep it with you. you can spritz anytime!
I have high blood pressure, would the salt baths affect that in any way ?
to be honest Nikki I cannot answer that – its something to ask your doctor
OMG OMG this is AWESOME congratulations Diane! Bravo to you and of course Teresa is an amazing coach and I am so proud of her! Coaching really enhances the experience!
Hi Colette: )
I read each question and response about the salt to use for the bath-but I still have a question. Is sea salt something I can use for the same effects as Himalayan Salt ? I love your oracle cards and your archived radio show on Hay House Radio! you are very candid and always bring a chuckle and a smile with your honesty. So good!
Thank you!
Julie Bailey
I’m sorry if this is a stupid question but I am reading Chapter 3 of your book right now about the salt bath and I am wondering… can I bathe with soap and wash my hair in this bath after I soak for 10-20 minutes? Or do I have to take a another bath/shower to do that?
and what would the ratio of salt to water do you add to make a spritzer bottle, maybe in a 12 oz spray bottle? Thank you.
This is fascinating! I’ve always felt renewed and rinsed out after floating in the ocean, and now I look forward to a nice salt bath in my apartment.
. Meanwhile, I recently bought a Himalayan salt lamp, because I loved the light it cast. I was told it created negative ions, which made it even more appealing, even though I’ve never actually understood the concept of “negative ions”. Any thoughts about those lamps?
Thank you so much.
Where do you buy the salts?
I love the Himalayan Sea Salt in the Shower after working a shift at the hospital..I just make a little paste and rub on arms, legs, belly…I swear I feel so much better afterwards & in clean jammies..Your skin feels tighter afterwards too(which is good) but def need to moisturize…Love your new book Colette 🙂 Great tools for everyday!
tiny pinch of salt , distilled water..6 drops of aromatherapy…
You posted a link at the bottom of this article, on how to purchase these bath salts. That link brought me to Amazon.com. You should REALLY READ the reviews on this product, before instructing people where to buy them. Some bath salts may work, but the ones you directed us to, have horrible reviews. Most were NOT pink (as advertised they were)…and some had horrible experiences with them. This probably wont get posted because I’m the one speaking up, and of course people don’t like it when they promote a product and someone writes the blog writer to tell them about these reviews…..but I hope you do post it. It will prevent others from wasting their time, money on bath salts, and the ridiculous price for shipping most reviewers on Amazon.com reported. After reading the reviews on Amazon.com…I would NEVER purchase these. We’ll see if you’re honest enough to actually publish this comment.
The amazon link is but a suggestion. I am sure if you’d like to find salts from another company you can find another on the internet and thank goodness that amazon gives 100% money back and people can just sent it back if they don;t like it. Since you seem intent on finding the best product I would love it if you could come back here and give me your honest opinion of the better products you find! IT would be such a wonderful service you could provide and everyone would benefit from hearing your positive voice. TRy Saltworks they are a wonderful company too.
Thanks for posting this! Great reminder as I have been clearing a lot of Entities lately and have noticed unwanted weight gain. Not that I feel bad in any other way, but the “swelling” is what needs to release. I use Magnesium Chloride in my bath regularly to get a pristine source of magnesium but will start doing the salt baths too. Do you think it is okay to mix the two? (both come from the sea…) Thanks Colette! Love the Oracle Cards and thanks again for being on my radio show about your book! Karen
