Do you have a practice that allows you to drop in with Spirit when you need to reconnect?
For me, journaling has been that practice for over 39 years. I’m reminded of its power every time I return to the page.
Journaling is my multi-use spiritual practice—sometimes truth-telling, sometimes truth-yelling, but always a way back to my Higher Power when I’ve lost my footing. It’s my magic GPS, guiding me through the twists and turns of life, helping me navigate the crowded, dusty road of personal evolution and destiny.
Really, it’s the best thing I have ever done consistently to navigate life on life’s terms and to continue to stay open to creating my reality with agency.
And the best part? Journaling is accessible to everyone.
All you need is a piece of paper, a pen, and a willingness to explore your inner world.
I’ve been an avid journaler for nearly four decades, and I’m still in awe of how much clarity, insight, and growth comes from this simple practice. And when I don’t do it? Well, let’s just say I feel the difference—I’m less plugged into Spirit, less grounded in my truth.
Lately, I’ve found that journaling is the only place where I can fully speak my truth—where I can liberate repressed thoughts, feelings, and shifting beliefs. In a world that constantly pulls at our attention and demands we fall in line, journaling offers a sacred space of personal freedom.
The truth is, journaling has changed my life. It reminds me that certainty isn’t found in the outer world—especially when everything feels chaotic and unpredictable. It’s found inside me, in my connection to Spirit. And when I make that my primary relationship, fear fades, curiosity expands, and I can live my faith one day at a time.
I’ve watched journaling help countless others—helping them access inner wisdom, connect more deeply to Spirit, and make real, meaningful changes in their lives.
And if you’ve ever felt blocked when it comes to journaling—maybe because you don’t consider yourself a “writer,” or you think you need some kind of specific knowledge or tools—I want you to know this:
It can be SO simple.
Overcoming Resistance to Journaling
If you’ve ever felt a block around journaling, I invite you to set your reservations and past experiences aside for now.
Why not open yourself up to the idea that no matter how you’ve felt about journaling in the past, it could be fun, easy, and incredibly helpful to learn how to use journaling for personal growth?
Here are 3 Tips to Help you Overcome Resistance to Journaling:
- Start small. Don’t set out to write pages and pages all at once. Start with a small goal, such as writing for five minutes at a time.
- Set an intention. Clearly define WHY you want to start journaling and what you hope to gain from him. This can help you stay motivated.
- Doodle! Sometimes when I’m feeling blocked or resistant to journaling, I don’t put the pressure on myself to write words. Instead, I just doodle and draw in my journal! Sometimes that’s how I have to get things out of my head, and then there are times that the act of doodling opens up my mind and allows the words to flow in my journal after.
Journaling as a Spiritual Practice: Connect with Your Intuition and Discover Hidden Signs from the Universe
If you’re craving direction on your spiritual path and don’t know where to start, journaling can also be a great way to connect with your intuition to begin feeling more connected to the little signs and nudges from the Universe.
The Universe (Spirit, God, Source, or whatever you choose to call it) is ALWAYS communicating with you. You just have to learn how to tune into the language it’s speaking. And, as soon as that pen hits the paper you are open to insights – remember you receive them, you don’t think them through your intellect or logic.
Journaling can support you in this discovery as it will heighten your awareness of the synchronicities and connections between events, little magic moments, and subtle signs you may be missing.
Your intuition is the language of the Universe, and when you learn to attune yourself to it, there’s a whole world of guidance and magic available to you.
If you want a simple journaling practice you can easily fit into your life right now, try starting with a simple gratitude journal – writing down what you’re grateful for and why each week. When you start to shift your focus toward these things, you start to notice little miracles often begin happening.
Journaling With Oracle Cards
One of my favorite ways to take my journaling practice even deeper is to combine it with other spiritual tools.
If you already have a journaling practice and are hoping to use it as a means to connect with your inner wisdom or feel guided on your spiritual journey, I highly recommend trying this one!
Even if you’re new to journaling, this tool can actually support you to make journaling feel easier, and to give you a feeling of guidance in your practice.
I love to do a short simple meditation on gratitude before a journaling practice because it helps me get grounded, quiet my mind, and re-focus on my intention for my journaling session.
Personally, journaling with Oracle Cards is one of my all-time favorite ways to get in touch with my intuition and connect with Spirit. When you use Oracle Cards in combination with journaling, it allows you to get enlisted by Spirit – to go on a journey you wouldn’t expect.
Sometimes it may feel like you don’t understand where you’re being taken at first, but by following the card’s prompts instead of just your intellectual thoughts, you can discover much more than you would through only your own thoughts and feelings.
Using Oracle Cards to journal is like having a mystical witness who guides you through your self-discovery process. Your story becomes crystal clear as you learn to use the oracle cards as a tool for self-reflection. If you’re curious about using Oracle Cards for journaling, you can simply ask the question, “What do I need to reflect on for my highest good today?”, then pull a card from your favorite Oracle Card deck. Or pick a card for free with my online Oracle Card deck here if you don’t have a deck of your own yet.
The Magic Happens When You Start Writing
Journaling isn’t about getting it “right.” It’s about showing up, putting pen to paper, and allowing what’s inside of you to unfold. Some days it might feel profound, other days it might just be a few scattered thoughts—but every time you write, you’re strengthening your connection to yourself and to Spirit.
And if you’re curious about how to take your practice even deeper, my course, The Power of Journaling with Oracle Cards, shows you how to use Oracle Cards to make journaling effortless—in just 10 minutes a day.
No matter where you are on your journey, just start. Your words will lead the way.
I’m trying to register but no link is sent for me to attend, is the link broken? how can I register for the Journaling event?
I have been journaling most of my “adult” life 50 years plus. Sometimes random thoughts and yes, often using my oracle decks to reveal what I need to know and writing about my lifes challenges which have been many and the great joys I have also encountered in my life.
My journals are very different from my diaries which are filled with “stuff” and every day happenings. What is a great joy now is I have the time to re-read these journals and they are certainly revealing just how far I have come on my spiritual journey . The lessons I have learnt and some that need a tweak even at my time of life, and how wonderful being here in these amazing times of spiritual awakening for so many on our planet is.
I hope when I have crossed the rainbow bridge many of my words will be an inspiration to others.
Much love and thank you for sharing so many of your gifts with so many of us.
I do like starting out journaling but sometimes use it as a therapy tool to get all my “stuff” out. Then read it back and it seems a bit grim!
For the last few years I have begun getting out a notebook & just writing thank you and whatever pops up in my head. But lately I have wondered if I am repeating over and over the same things and if I need to rewrite new things and is there a correct text I am to be using. So I am looking forward to Jumpstart your Journaling . Once I jot down a few things I usually talk out load to the spirit or universe and have a quick conversation then I pick one oracle card. In all if I have time it is anywhere from 10min in the morning to 30min.
I have been journalling for 25 yrs so much gets written in them and looking back I see I have cime a long way.
I love reflecting on a daily oracle card I pull. It always brings up something new and a different way of seeing. What am I making this mean and that’s interesting are two thoughts that get me going. Thank you Colette! Can’t wait for the journaling class to learn some tips.
Since I discovered you my life has changed❤️
Thank you for all that you do all who you are, wonderful.

aww! much love to you, Sandra!
I actually love putting pen to paper, however in recent times I’ve been stuck in a rut, this is a great reminder and tools given to help thank you 😊
I read above that sometimes you doodle while journaling. When I had tried journaling in the past I felt like I was writing nonsense and had nothing to say so I ended up doodling mostly, thinking I was wasting my time and paper I stopped. So, perhaps I’ll get some oracle cards and try again and not worry about doodling 🙂 I learn something from you everytime Colette! Thank you, Jen
Thank you so very much. I’m very new to this and your wisdom deck drew me in and I can’t imagine a day without it I even took it on vacation
I ordered the Oracle Card Journal, and I’m excited to start journaling with it. I joined the Master Class as well! This is a divinely timed class for me. Thank you for creating such value for all of us and assisting us in our journey.
I journal quite often as this is my way to connect with spirit however I could use some tips on how to strengthen and trust what comes through. Thank you so very much for hosting this class!
Blessings to you
I have stopped and started many times over the past decade. Sustaining is the hardest part – well, maybe along with just getting started (wry smile). On some level it’s like only praying when you need something – betting there’s more just as much to be gained in lighter times as there is in the darker times. And I know I need to work through some things, so I need to do this. Looking forward to the Master Class – thanks for all you and your team do.
Today was Day 1 of using the Oracle Card Journal. I asked the question at the top and it was incredible. The card Not For Me addressed a worry I had gone to sleep with. I have never journaled before and am excited to take this path to awareness.
Love your energy. Thank you.
I registered for the masterclass, but didn’t have time to read the information that came up after I signed up. How do I learn more about the digital Journaling tool? Thanks!
Ps, loved your Vision board workshop!!
Wow, I am learning so much from you. I guess I didn’t realize that I was journaling but I have been keeping track of my daily cards I recently purchased your 40 day oracle card journal. I haven’t started using it yet. I’m waiting until your class starts next week I’m so excited about it, I’m just coming into an awakening I think and I’m learning so much about myself and making myself a better person. Thank you so much for your guidance.
Way back 1975 when I went to Humber College for fashion we had to take English, which was a strong suit for me. However we had to journal daily which I didn’t do. I made an agreement with the teacher that after our trip to Montreal I would hand in a journal as I believed I didn’t really have much to write about and this would make it more exciting. I got my credit for that semester however I didn’t turn a journal after the trip. Well… I did after the teacher said that sh could remind my credit. I really wish that I had taken up the practice back then. I really regret it. At 67 it’s time
so glad that you appreciate this, Brenda!
I’m so happy that you learned from this, Jennifer! 💓

there’s really no such thing as “too late” when it comes to journaling! I encourage you to journal! 💗
Hello, I stopped journaling for too long because of a bad divorce. They had requested my journals and I would rather burn them then give them so I stopped journaling. I have now been back to it for a few years and find it to be very helpful. I used to like using your Postcards from Spirit deck for journaling. That was fun. Might go back to that.
Alas I missed the single dot journal gathering thinking it was today. Really trying to coax myself into the thought I can maybe journal too if I knew how what etc. as I have a neurodivergent brain and am scared I might be there all day trying to write ✍️ Any chance of yesterday’s replay? I haven’t found one in my6 email yet.
