Living in a state of Flow means letting the current of life take you.
There’s something incredibly beautiful about this experience – living in surrender to the flow of life, allowing expansion to overcome you, being grounded without being rigid.
And yet, flow isn’t always our natural tendency. It’s actually something we have to cultivate. With all of the uncertainty in the world, our instincts can tell us that we need to “hold onto the branch.” We’re afraid of being swept away, of losing control – so we contract.
We begin grasping to control. We look for ways to force certainty as a response to the uncertainty of life. But the irony is that the more we hold on, the more we grasp and control, the more we keep going in a loop.
Trusting the Flow of Life
At its core, being in flow is about trust. Trusting life. Trusting Spirit’s plan for you. Trusting yourself and your own inner knowing. It’s about staying open to other possibilities. Keeping your curiosity and sense of wonder alive, even when things don’t go your way.
It doesn’t mean you need to tune out from what’s going on in the world or in your life. It simply means becoming the eye of the storm and not letting everything outside of you take you off your center. It means practicing radical acceptance.
Being in a state of flow, in a state of self forgetting, is like medicine for the soul. It’s being caught by the wings of Spirit or held in the hands of the Divine. And it’s up to us to cultivate this sense of flow in our lives.
If you can achieve this state for even 5 minutes each day, it can make a massive difference in your life. Those pockets of peace, surrender, and ease you create will eventually weave themselves into everything you do.
Here are 7 simple ways to get into flow:
1. Practice meditation to reach a flow state
One of the absolute best ways to achieve a state of flow and an experience of self-forgetting is meditation. I personally fell in love with meditation when I discovered guided meditations. For the first time, I was able to bypass my subconscious mind and quiet my swirling thoughts.
I’ve created countless guided visual journeys that help people find a sense of flow, peace, and grounding. One of my personal favorites for getting into a state of flow and releasing our tendency to want to grasp and control is my, Removing Blocks Guided Meditation. You can listen to it for free here:
2. Cultivating a flow state with journaling
One of the things that stands in the way of us finding flow in our lives is our tendency to seek control in the face of uncertainty. In order to overcome this tendency and to shift our relationship with life from one of fear into one of trust, we need tools for self-exploration and reflection.
Journaling is one of my favorite tools for this kind of personal exploration and growth. When you feel yourself getting caught up in a pattern of fear or a desire to control, it’s a great time to take your pen to paper and do some self reflection.
To get started, take out your journal and respond to this question: What’s beneath your desire to hold on, and where can you let go?
3. Align Your Energy Centers with my “Energy Flows” Course
As human beings, there are 7 archetypal stories we tell about our lives based on 7 Universal themes. The accumulation of these stories help make up our identities.
Throughout our lives, each of these stories or energies can come in and out of alignment. They shift with our perspective and the stories we are telling (consciously or unconsciously) about our lives.
As you realign these stories, you will create a new vision for your life in partnership with the Universe that will transform you and help you show up as your highest self. As your energy flows and you begin clearing energy blocks, you will feel more joy, peace, and fulfillment in your body, mind, and spirit.
In my 21-day course called Energy Flows, we will cover each of the 7 energies and will support you with clearing energy blocks and coming into spiritual alignment as you heal and balance each of your energy centers. The result is the ability to balance and ground yourself whenever you need to, and a new vision for your inspired life!
4. Read, Uncharted to discover how to get into flow
When we learn to trust life, flow can happen much more easily. We release our need for control and instead, approach life with curiosity. Uncertainty is a natural part of life.
In my book, Uncharted: The Journey through Uncertainty to Infinite Possibility, I explore the challenge we all face: to sail into uncharted waters. We have to let go of the familiar ways that don’t work anymore to discover ourselves and the infinite potential for our lives.
If you’re looking for a guide to help you find a sense of trust, groundedness, and flow, I highly recommend checking out Uncharted.
5. Use Oracle Cards for finding flow
Feeling in flow is deeply connected with your ability to trust life. And your feeling of trust in life is largely dependent on your relationship with your Higher Power.
Oracle Cards are a unique spiritual tool because they allow us to have a direct dialogue with Spirit – giving us guidance and support on our path.
In order to use Oracle Cards to find more flow in your life, you have to release the idea that the cards will give you exact certainty. They will not allow you to control outcomes or know exactly what’s going to happen. Instead, they will offer you guidance, give you affirmation when you are on the right path, or point your awareness in the direction you need to find what’s next for you.
Try using your favorite Oracle Card deck and asking the question, “What do I need to know to experience more flow in my daily life?” Then pull a card and consider the messages in the guidebook. If you don’t own your own deck, you can also use my free online deck to pull a card.
6. Ground yourself in nature
Nature can be one of the most healing tools available to us. We are naturally connected to the cycles of nature, and when we spend time outdoors, our bodies and souls attune to those cycles.

All of nature has a natural rhythm and flow. And the more time we spend in nature, the more we orient and ground into that natural cycle. Nature reminds us to slow down, connect with our bodies, and relax into the natural rhythm of life. If you’re feeling ungrounded or out of alignment, a simple walk outside can change your whole perspective.
7. Move your body
Have you ever experienced a total shift in mood and energy after a walk, a workout, or a good stretch? So much of the way we feel in life comes down to the way we feel in our bodies. When you feel stagnant, stuck, frustrated in any area of your life, it’s time to get moving!
Yoga is, of course, a wonderful way to find a feeling of flow. But so are most kinds of exercise and movement. When you get the energy moving through your body, loosen up, and find physical flow, it will typically extend into other parts of your life as well.
Physical movement is great when you need a “quick fix” to bring more flow into your day.
Cultivating a Flow State
A feeling of flow is something that will naturally ebb and flow in our lives. Just keep in mind that it’s up to you to cultivate that feeling of flow, and not to expect it to naturally come to you.
In the times we’re living in, there’s a lot of uncertainty and it’s easy to get caught up in fear. We’re exposed to so much information and stimulation each and every day in our globally connected world. That’s why it’s essential to find practices, tools, and resources that help you stay grounded and come back into alignment when you are out of flow.
I created the free Find Your Flow Meditation Challenge to help you align and balance the various areas of your life into flow in partnership with the Universe. We’re getting started on August 3rd. Click here to join for free.

I cultivate flow by giving thanks to Spirit every morning as soon as I awaken. Ask Spirit to cleanse my aura as I shower and rid all negativity. And wash away pain on days I feel pain. I then meditate, and pull a daily oracle card.
Throughout each day, I make it a point to take daily quiet walk and practice mindfulness as though it is the first time I am seeing, feeling, smelling my surroundings and am in awe of everything. I either walk by water or by the mountainside filled with foresty area. This relaxes me for sure.
Sometimes I drum, rattle, hum, sing or dance. All of the above helps me to flow and release unwanted energy when it sneaks up on me.
At night, I pray and give thanks for all aspects of my life.
So excited to get into the flow! With life being so chaotic personally and worldwide I need to be reminded to be grounded more often. Thank you for offering such a great resource! 🤍
